The setting

American films shot in France often limit themselves to beautiful districts of Paris. The Eiffel Tower is part of one out of two shots, as if wherever you are in France, you can see the Eiffel Tower from your window.

Some films also take place in Cannes, the south of France, and in small villages in Provence. These films portray people who farm or make wine. The automobile industry is stuck in the 60’s: the deudeuche through an old DS. For American filmmakers, France is appears to be a strange place frozen in time. (french kiss and Midnight in Paris)
